Students that engage in research, and bring their projects to a stage where it can be presented and written into paper format, may receive our Research Scholar designation and graduation medal. The Research Scholar Medal is designed for students who have conducted independent research in addition to completing the required courses for their degree/major. To qualify for the Research Scholar designation, you must have completed the following requirements prior to graduation:

  1. Complete at least two semesters of independent research under the advisement of a UT faculty mentor or a mentor approved by the Research Office, in addition to fulfilling the required courses for your degree or major.
  2. Present your work in any form (oral, poster, exhibit, performance, etc) at any conference or other public venue.
    You must email a copy of your presentation with your application.
  3. A “product”, in the form of a formal written paper, report, publication. You must email a copy of your product with your application (the “product” cannot be a duplicate of your presentation – it must be a standalone document, though likely related to content of your presentation)
  4. Must apply in your final academic year leading up to graduating with a Bachelors degree (B.S., B.A., B.A.S).

Note: Students graduating any semester are eligible, but applications are currently reviewed annually in late-April or early-May.
Note: Associates- and Masters-level graduates are not eligible for this award.

The deadline to submit an application is April 22 to receive this medal for Spring graduation.
Any products/papers/reports related to the work must be sent to research@utahtech.edu no later than April 26.
